AIDS Awareness Pins To Recognize World AIDS Day

Awareness_Red_Ribbon_PinsWorld AIDS Day will allow us to take a moment and realize all the different advances and progress that has been accomplished when it comes to HIV prevention and awareness. In the past 3 years there has been significant progress made in the field of HIV, but the work really doesn’t stop there.

It is extremely important to keep the issue of AIDS and HIV in the face of the public. For this reason, it will also be extremely important for people to recognize World AIDS Day with the rest of the world by wearing red ribbons for AIDS. This is to show everyone that you also support this very important movement and the issues that surround it.

Although wearing red ribbon pins are extremely important, there are many ways people like you can help to arouse awareness and concern for this devastating infection. Prevention is only as good as the people that help to bring these issues to the forefront.

Many people may get lax simply because they aren’t hearing news about HIV or AIDS on a daily basis, but the fact is – people are continuing to die from HIV infections, and many of the reasons are completely avoidable.

Like any other epidemic that man has ever had to deal with, it all relies on people to come together over one cause. That cause is to help people understand the enormous ramifications this deadly virus will have if gone un-checked.

World AIDS Day comes around each year on December 1st and this year is no different. Although there are many accomplishments that can be celebrated, there are many defeats that need to be remembered.

With continued effort on your part, more and more people will become aware and those new faces will be able to contribute to this life threatening cause. With the help of ‘people’, vaccines will become available just as they had when the measles, smallpox, and polio ravaged humans at will.

People will one day be able to use these important vaccines for protection in the hopes that one day, more advanced vaccines or cures are found. As stated before, this doesn’t happen at the hand of one person, this type of help takes ‘people’ – people like you, your family, and your friends. If you really want to become involved in something extremely special, and something that can really make a difference in your life as well as others, take some time this December 1st and wear red ribbon pins for AIDS, and join with the rest of the world to recognize World AIDS Day.

Suicide Prevention Pins To Support National Survivors Of Suicide Day

It is estimated that 30,000 people commit suicide annually, effecting up to seven million lives. In order to raise awareness many are wearing yellow awareness pins in the days leading up to, and around National Survivors of Suicide Day. The use of these suicide prevention pins helps to create awareness for the cause, in hopes of dramatically dwindling the annual numbers of those lives lost by their own hands.

National Survivors of Suicide Day always falls on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, making it November 19th this year. Suicide numbers tend to increase as the holiday seasons approach. Many become extra lonely and depressed, urging on their suicidal tendencies. This is the ideal time to reach out.

It is estimated that every 40 seconds someone in the world dies by suicide, which leaves all of their friends and family to try to make sense of it and understand what went wrong. Many will blame themselves, many will blame others, regardless of the blame they’re all left saddened and confused.

With the increase in bullying problems and the economic troubles of the world, both teens and adults alike are left with thoughts of ending their life. All it takes is one person to reach out and save them. Just one person to show some care and concern.

yellow ribbonWearing yellow suicide awareness pins can convey to others that suicide is a large problem and one that needs to be addressed. Wear your yellow pin everywhere, every day, and explain to those who ask, and those who don’t know what it represents. The more people who are aware of the problem, the more people who can reach out to those in need.

This is the 13th year of the National Survivors of Suicide Day, and each year more and more people is getting involved. The more that become involved the more of an impact they can make on those who need our help.

The National Survivors of Suicide Day isn’t just to remember those who have died or to prevent future suicides, but it is also to help friends and family members of victims to mourn, cope, and be able to move on with their lives. Though no one ever forgets their loved one, they do need to return to some sense of normalcy after the suicide of a loved one.

Everyone has been touched by suicide, even if not directly. Whether is a friend or family member to has taken their own life or to even just reading about a suicide in the paper. We can all agree that suicide is preventable and we can all make a difference. Reach for your yellow awareness pin and spread the word about National Survivors of Suicide day, you will help save a life and improve one already touched by suicide.

Diabetes Awareness Ribbon Pins

familyDiabetes is a severe illness that affects nearly 25.8 million or 8.3% of the American population. Its incidence has been increasing exponentially with every passing year. In the year 2007 alone, almost 250,000 deaths were attributed to Diabetes – directly or indirectly. Sadly, this figure has been rising every year. However, you can contribute to the cause and help to create awareness by wearing awareness ribbon pins during American Diabetes Month this November.

First of all, it should be realized that amongst the 25.8 million people who are affected by Diabetes, nearly one third of them are not aware of it. Either intentionally or unintentionally, they do not take the occurrence of Diabetes seriously, making the disease’s severity only worse. As such, it is our responsibility to make people conscious about it. You can increase awareness by wearing red ribbons pins and by educating people in your community about this condition. What you do can help to save lives from potential risk.

Awareness_Red_Ribbon_PinsAwareness_Red_Ribbon_Heart_

The American Diabetes Month is filled with events all around the country that not only call for people who are affected by the disease but also people who do not have it as well. You should realize that 79 million people have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes; a condition in which some of the symptoms of diabetes are observed. All they need to do is avoid factors that only speed up the progress of diabetes. During Diabetes Awareness Month, it’s important to educate these people about what they can do to prevent contracting the disease which in the medium and long term can save their lives.

Diabetes is not only a deadly disease, but it is also one which can cause the occurrence of other life-threatening conditions, such as blindness, heart diseases, foot ulcers, chronic pain, and even kidney failure. Moreover, the occurrence of heart strokes is often worsened when it occurs in conjunction with high blood sugar.

On the other hand, people suffering from diabetes often become quite depressed. Not being able to do what you want or physical limitations, sometimes make people victim of clinical and chronic depression. In November, you can show to these people that there’s hope and that you care by taking part of this national crusade.

Whether you have diabetes or not, it’s very important to support this cause and help to spread awareness. There’re many ways you can team up for this campaign, from volunteering, donations, events or simply by wearing red ribbon pins during the month of November, it’s up to you how you want to take action!

Raising Ovarian Cancer Awareness: Teal Ribbons Pins To Support The Cause

Ovarian cancer accounts for almost 3% of all cancers among women. It is the ninth most common cancer and fifth most common cause of cancer-related death in women. This type of cancer can be cured, though it may not always be that easy. To show support for the Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, which is being celebrated on the month of September each year, there are so many kinds of activities that you could do to participate.

One of the easiest ways for you to show your support include wearing teal ribbon pins, teal silicone wristbands or teal awareness charms during the month of celebration. By displaying awareness pins, for example, you will spread the word and awareness about this disease to people who don’t have a clue about it. The more people aware of ovarian cancer and its symptoms, the more successful the celebration will be. One of the main objectives of the awareness campaign, it’s to educate women to recognize warning signs, therefore, the cancer can be detected at an early stage before it gets worse increasing the chances of defeating it.

Why the color teal? Well, just like breast cancer with its pink ribbon and AIDS with its striking red color, teal is considered as the official color of ovarian cancer and is also the color for Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. During September, those who are directly affected by the cancer and those who are not directly affected but may have a loved one suffering, are the most celebrated. In addition, a lot of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and health authorities will be playing their role by organizing educational events at public places and setting up health and information booths to spread more awareness to the public.

Ovarian cancer is one of the most deadly of women cancers. For 2010, it was estimated that 21,880 women in the United States alone would be diagnosed with ovarian cancer and at least 13,850 would died from this disease. It’s everyone’s responsibility to help raise more awareness, and aside from showing personal support by wearing the teal colored accessories, there are many kinds of events which can be organized to raise awareness or to raise funds. Among the events that could be organized for the cause include a tea party plus an ovarian cancer talk or seminar, or a public auction to help raise funds. Funds recollected are usually used on research to develop better screaming methods or to improve treatments.

Awareness Pins To Support Leukemia and Lymphoma Research

September is National Leukemia and Lymphoma awareness month and it will be the perfect time to increase public awareness about these two cancerous diseases. It requires proper understanding about its prevalence, prevention, and treatment.

Just to get an idea about how these diseases are affecting people around the globe over the last decade, it is important to get hold of some statistics for better understanding. In the year 2000, approximately 256,000 people around the world, including children and adults, developed Leukemia, and 209,000 died from it. These statistics represent 3% of the 7 million deaths caused by cancer in 2000, and 0.35% of deaths overall.

In the United States alone, about 245,000 people were affected with some sort of Leukemia, and in 2008, about 44,000 of newly Leukemia-diagnosed cases were registered. This represents 30.4% of all types of blood cancers. Even in children, every third child has leukemia, commonly known as acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Every year September is celebrated as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Awareness Month, which is a great opportunity to educate people.  Thousands of people every year join together to commemorate this very special occasion. These people work all year to make every possible effort to raise money for blood cancer research.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society organizes one of the best awareness events, named the “Light the Night Walk”. It is a charity walk that is held every year by different communities across the nation, which raises funds and donations that go towards blood cancer research, educational materials to promote awareness, developing local support groups and counseling, and providing free personalized assistance for cancer-victims and their families.

This event is the backbone of fund raising, as the research for finding the cure for Leukemia and Lymphoma depends on it. During the course of this event, everyone participating in the “Light the Night Walk” walk carries illuminated color-coded balloons. White balloons denote the leukemia survivors; red balloons denote the spreading of awareness, and the golden balloons commemorating the friends and families of those who lost their lives to blood cancer.

There are several ways to be a part of this great cause. One can show their support by joining this walk, or host their own Leukemia & Lymphoma Awareness event to raise funds and awareness in public. These events carry tremendous amount of passion and emotion, thus giving promotional items to spread awareness that is both sensitive and appropriate, would be ideal for this cause.

One can wear or give away cancer awareness pins or silicone bracelets and urge people to wear them to show their support and create awareness. Lime green wristbands are for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and any other kind of Lymphoma, while purple bracelets are used to symbolize Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. These bracelets and pins are quite subtle, and exceptionally appropriate for promoting the fight against cancer. After all, the concept of these silicone bracelets and awareness pins has its roots based on the fight against cancer.

Purple Awareness Pins To Celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day

National Cancer Survivors Day is an annual holiday dedicated to celebrating life after cancer diagnosis.  Managed by the National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation, this holiday is held on the first Sunday in June each year.  National Cancer Survivors Day 2011 will be held on June 5th.  Started in 1988, this year’s National Cancer Survivors Day marks the holiday’s 23rd anniversary.  Originally held solely in the United States, holiday celebrations now also take place in Canada, India, the Netherlands and many other nations around the world.

Thanks to medical research and early detection, the number of cancer survivors has increased dramatically over the past decades. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, while there were 3 million cancer survivors in 1971, the figure for 2007 was 11.7 million of people who are living with this disease.

Though National Cancer Survivors Day is observed internationally, most festivities are local celebrations.  These are often sponsored by hospitals, cancer research facilities and other organizations committed to the cause.  It’s also common for other cancer awareness causes to be represented at holiday gatherings, armed with sign-ups for events like the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Race for the Cure.  Events held for National Cancer Survivors Day include fundraisers, carnivals, speeches, concerts and art exhibits.  Most events are designed for all ages, so it’s a great idea to bring the entire family along.

This holiday is as much for cancer survivors as it is for those still fighting.  For patients still struggling with cancer, seeing and participating in the day’s events can help remind them that they’re not alone – and that there’s hope.  Look out for purple bracelets in the crowd; these are worn as a badge of honor by cancer survivors.  Since many National Cancer Survivors Day events are locally-based, they also provide a great opportunity to meet new friends and supporters right in your own backyard.

Attending National Cancer Survivors Day parades or other events in your area is a great way to show your support for friends and loved ones who have been diagnosed with cancer.  Just as cancer survivors typically wear purple silicone bracelets, supporters can often be found wearing cancer awareness pins.  Awareness ribbon pins are especially popular, as these can help show which type of cancer a loved one is battling.  For example, pink ribbons represent the fight against breast cancer while teal ribbons support ovarian cancer. While supportive clothing and accessory items are not required to take part in National Cancer Survivors Day, they are a nice way to show some added support for the heroes this holiday honors.

Awareness Ribbon Pins To Bring Attention To Your Cause

Wearing awareness ribbon pins to draw attention to a specific cause has become increasingly popular among people of all ages.  Traditionally, yellow ribbons denoting a family member’s service in the military were the first examples of bringing attention to a cause by wearing an awareness ribbon.  However, as more people look for an elegant way to draw attention to the issues that concern them most, a growing number of awareness ribbon pins are available. Awareness ribbon pins are a great choice for people who want to distribute or sell the pins as a way to raise money for a specific cause.  Choosing a pin that is brightly colored will help you bring attention to your cause, and can be purchased from distributors who can create almost any color or pattern you can imagine.  If the cause you want to support doesn’t already have a color of ribbon associated with it, you can create one that represents your group.  The following is a list of some of the traditional awareness ribbon pin colors and the causes they are associated with:

  • Pink Ribbon- Most often used as cancer awareness pins, specifically breast cancer awareness, pink is also associated with other causes related to women’s health.  Pink ribbons are sometimes worn by mothers who have given a child up for adoption to demonstrate their support of the adoption process.  Pink awareness ribbon pins are also associated with childhood cancer awareness.
  • Yellow Ribbon- As the first color to be associated with awareness ribbon pins, the yellow ribbon remains an important way for families and others to show their support for soldiers.  Other causes represented by the yellow ribbon include suicide prevention, adoptive parents, bladder cancer, the “Amber alert” program, and endometriosis.  A pale yellow ribbon is used to represent spine bifida, and a yellow ribbon with a heart denotes a person who has been left behind after a family member commits suicide.
  • Red Ribbon- The red awareness ribbon pin is used to show support for the fight against HIV and AIDS, but can also denote support for heart disease and stroke and several other diseases.  The red ribbon is also used by the organizations MADD and DARE and in the fight against substance abuse.
  • Blue Ribbon- The blue ribbon is used to show support for numerous causes, including the elimination of drunk driving, child abuse prevention, victims of hurricane Katrina, and several types of cancer.  Different shades of blue are also used, such as dark blue to represent victim’s rights and water-related causes.

Other ribbon colors and their meanings can be found by searching online.  Creating custom lapel pins that you can use as giveaways or sell as fundraising efforts is a great way to raise awareness of your cause.  These pins are popular among people of all ages, and both men and women wear them to show support for their causes.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and it’s time to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect and create strong communities to support children and families.

Blue Ribbons have become a symbol of awareness for child abuse prevention month.

“In 1989, the Blue Ribbon Campaign to Prevent Child Abuse began as a Virginia grandmother’s tribute to her grandson who died as a result of abuse. She tied a blue ribbon to the antenna of her car as a way to remember him and to alert her community to the tragedy of child abuse. The Blue Ribbon Campaign has since expanded across the country, and many wear blue ribbons each April in memory of those who have died as a result of child abuse. In other communities, special fundraisers are held to support prevention activities and treatment facilities for victims, and candlelight vigils are held as a remembrance. Most recently, the focus has shifted to a more positive message of celebrating “blue ribbon” individuals, organizations, and communities that have done much to prevent child abuse and neglect.” – Childwelfare.gov -

To learn more about the history of Child Abuse Prevention Month and to get important information and resources please visit http://www.childwelfare.gov/

Awareness ribbon pins are an effective and economical way to raise awareness in your community about any cause you would like to support. They can be distributed among your friends or at events, conferences and health fairs. By wearing a lapel pin you’re showing your concern and commitment and playing an important role in the task of raising awareness and spreading the word for your cause.

Sienna Pacific store carries a variety of colors and styles of awareness pins and silicone bracelets that may work perfect for your project. Lapel Pins in Action: Lilies for Lillie Campaign

I would like to share this story to illustrate how lapel pins can be a valuable addition to any fundraising effort.

The Lilies for Lillie campaign was created by Gord Delaney in memory of his mother Lillie in 2003.

“Lilies for Lillie has raised $250,000 and sold over 55,000 lapel pins over the past seven years and that is truly amazing” says founder Gord Delaney. “The support from the business community and communities around the province is always inspiring. Often times I walk by somebody wearing a LFL lapel pin and I cannot help but smile and think it’s pretty neat that somebody who never met my mother is helping me remember her and celebrate her life.” – The Telegram -

For this year fundraising, Lilies for Lillie has set the goal to raise $ 50,000 that will be equally split and donated to Daffodil Place, Heart and Stroke Foundation and the K-Rock Children’s Trust Fund.

Visit www.lflhome.com for more information.

Every time I read about this kind of stories, I’m amazed for the capacity of some people to turn around, what is maybe a sad moment or a bad experience, to a magnificent effort to help others and moreover to get the entire community involve in the process.

Custom lapel pins can help your fundraising drive Sometimes, it’s easier to ask for donations if we can give something in exchange, like a pin for example. By including awareness pins in your campaign you’re not only making things easier for the volunteers to ask for contributions, but also, spreading the word about your cause. Anyone wearing your lapel pins will become your ambassadors!
